The history of the lightboard
2006
The first portal, which was originally on a friend's domain, offered space for my first mobile phone snapshots, but the image quality was of course still very poor back then.
The basic idea was to collect the photos, which I took with friends and acquaintances on all possible occasions, and thus make them accessible to everyone (by the way, that was long before social media platforms existed :-)
2010
Finally I took the time to completely rebuild the old site and move it to my own domain. In addition, the private photos are now housed in a separate area. Furthermore, my other projects from the last few years are also documented.
2014
Since June - after a recent revision - the lightboard has been shown in a black design and has brought some significant improvements in terms of function and display. More storage space also enables a higher resolution of the photos.
2019
Since the Lightboard is now showing its age, which was originally optimized for PC screens, an update of the site would make sense again.
The most important innovations are the "crisp" design with improved clarity, better display on mobile devices, encrypted and separate access for friends / family and internationality through texts in English.
2022
For Christmas 2022 I (finally) gave the site a new script, which now also supports swiping and zooming as well as full screen mode on smartphones/tablets. I also increased the resolution of the photos.
The total number of photos on the site is now 8660 (as of October 2025).
When asked whether maintaining such a website makes sense in times of social media, I can only reply that I know exactly where my pictures are on my site and that I am always in control of all activities on it.
